Throne of Glass #1
I have mixed feelings on Throne of Glass. While I enjoyed the story and it definitely had all the right elements (action, mystery, romance), it just all felt a little too superficial. The hardest thing is I still have trouble believing that she is/was this feared and amazing assassin. The only real evidence we have of her greatness is anecdotal. I wish we had more backstory on Celaena. I wish we could see what she was before Endovier. I wish the supernatural elements of the story had more depth and didn’t feel like they were just thrown in there as a plot device. I wish her fantasy world was more fleshed out and not just nodded to in brevity. And I wish she really “felt” like an assassin, and not just a girl with a dark past and an uncertain future.

So, am I going to continue the series? Yes, I enjoyed the story enough that I’m curious to see where it goes, and I have heard that the books get better as the series progresses (and perhaps the prequel stories in “Assassin’s Blade” will fill the backstory void). But am I awaiting the next book with bated breath? No, and that’s too bad, because I really loved this book’s premise, it just fell a bit flat for me.
