Shades of Magic #2
Loved it, though A Gathering of Shadows was a very different novel from its predecessor, A Darker Shade of Magic. While the latter was very much a self contained story, A Gathering of Shadows was most definitely part of larger tale. We have some new character’s in this one too, most notably Alucard whom I absolutely adore!
My only complaint is that the beginning of the novel seemed a bit slow (but by no means boring), as we spend a large deal of time on character development and exploring the ramifications of the events of book 1. The action really doesn’t come in until the latter half of the book, but then it really picks up (though in retrospect, this is similar in feel to the pacing of the first novel). I’m glad I only have a few weeks to wait for the final book in the series is released.
